STRETCH MARKS

What are stretch marks?

  • Stretch marks, also known as striae, are a type of scarring on the skin that appears on areas of rapid growth.
  • Stretch marks can appear in any area where there is a lot of stretching or pressure to the skin, such as during pregnancy or puberty.

STRETCH MARKS CAUSES

There are six main reasons for stretch marks such as:

  • Weight Loss Stretch Marks
  • Weight Gain And Stretch Marks
  • Pregnancy Stretch Marks
  • Medical condition Stretch Marks
  • Corticosteroid use and Stretch Marks
  • Puberty Stretch Marks

Occurance

Stretch Marks are caused by the skin being stretched beyond its natural elasticity. This can happen for many reasons, including:

  • sudden growth spurts,
  • obesity,
  • pregnancy and
  • even excessive weight lifting.

Stretch marks form when the upper layer of skin tears away from the deeper layers due to rapid stretching or tearing of collagen fibers. The body then replaces these fibers with new ones

Stretch Marks Treatment

  • Fractional laser resurfacing
  • Ablative laser
  • Nonablative laser
  • Microneedling
  • PRP
  • Chemical Peel

1. Fractional Laser Resurfacing

  • Fractional laser resurfacing involves the use of a laser beam that is divided into thousands of microscopic treatment zones.
  • It improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of scars.
  • Fractional laser resurfacing works by delivering tiny blasts of energy into the skin.

2. Ablative Laser

  • Ablative laser creates injury on the thin outer layer of skin and heats the underlying skin (dermis), which stimulates the growth of collagen.
  • Types include CO2 laser, erbium laser or combination system.

3. Nonablative Laser

  • Nonablative Laser uses a precise wavelength of light to penetrate below the skin’s surface.
  • It stimulates collagen growth while keeping skin surface layer unharmed.
  • It is less aggressive than an ablative laser and has a shorter recovery time.

4. Microneedling

  • Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment.
  • It is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy.
  • With the help of tiny micro-needles, the upper layer of the skin is punctured which triggers the body to produce new collagen and elastin.

5. PRP

  • PRP traditionally stands for platelet-rich plasma.
  • PRP is injected into the collagen under the skin. PRP is injected with microneedles and skin gets repaired within an hour.

6. Chemical Peel

  • Chemical peels is a non-surgical treatment.
  • This process stimulates new cell growth, collagen production, and skin renewal.
  • With multiple sessions, the skin becomes smoother, firmer, and more even-toned.
Frequently Asked Questions

Stretch marks are long, narrow lines that appear on the skin when it stretches too quickly, such as during pregnancy, puberty, or rapid weight changes.

Over time, stretch marks may fade but rarely disappear completely without treatment.

Treatments like laser therapy, chemical peels, microneedling, and radiofrequency can reduce their appearance and improve skin texture.
